When the weather gets warm and the rain clouds have cleared, the spring itch for something new sprouts forward and our homes are a typical outlet.
Everyone spring dusts. Yes dust. By dusting all surfaces in your home, you are clearing and cleaning away the winter energy as well as the indoor dust that has collect. You get to create a fresh new shiny surface that sings in your home for very little money. Energetically you are moving out the old stagnate energy and adding a fresh shiny new perspective. So get out those dust rags and spend a Saturday afternoon clearing those winter dust particles out of your space.
Now when it comes to your décor, you can bring in seasonal colors that lift your spirit and energize a room according to what we see in nature. Use these colors to create focal points in your home and create vignette areas that you can easily change for each season. My decorating seasons are the following:
- Early summer
- Late summer
With these seasons, there are colors that coordinate. Colors for seasons can be:
- Lime green, white, light blue, pink, orange
Summer– full spectrum
- Yellow, green, blue, purple, red
Fall– jewel tones
- Golden yellow, rust, brown, wine, plum, red, orange
Winter– Soft and Bright
- Reds, Silvers, Gold’s, White, Blue
With these color ideas, you can take on repainting a room, adding a focal wall to offset or support areas, or even paint behind a headboard in a bedroom. These areas are easy to plan in a seasonal change or just create an area to offset and highlight in a room.
Moving furniture is a spring sensation and an easy way to create something new in your home. I suggest moving furniture to create better conversation areas and this is best done with open furniture arrangements. This means creating 90 degree or 45 degree angles with your furniture.
Besides moving furniture, adding support furniture can dramatically uplift a room. Add side tables for drinks, lamps for mood lighting, ottomans for your feet and bookcases to get stuff up and off the floor. Now you have cleared the floor space and refreshed the room.
Color is another way to enhance your furniture and you can use the seasonal colors to change pillows and throws or add season décor icons on your shelves and horizontal surfaces.
Lighting dramatically changes the feel of a room and the simple task of cleaning and polishing your hanging light fixtures can add some brilliance to your space.
For spring, adding the feel of nature into our homes with the use of plants, fresh floral arrangements, natural fiber materials and natural elements like weathered woods, shells, sand, and rocks will present a spring like feeling to any room.
These are a few tips for you to use in your home to add refreshing new details to your space.
