Is the condition of your current bathroom feeling dated and worn? Are your plumbing fixtures beginning to leak? Is it difficult to coordinate colors with the forest green whirlpool tub in the corner? If so, a bathroom update or bathroom remodel is in your near future plans. Bathroom remodels can be one of the most expensive rooms to update in your house, next to your kitchen. But remodeling a bathroom is a great investment, a 64% return on your investment, according to the National Association of Realtors.
As an interior designer and general contractor, my first recommendation is to assess your bathroom area to determine the needs and budget that reflects you, then find creative solutions to implement with-in those parameters.
The least expensive way for you to transform your bathroom is with a “Surface Update”. This is an easy do-it-yourself bathroom update because it consists of what is applied to the walls- paint, mirrors, hardware, faucet, shower curtains, and accessories. A new look and feel can be created from updating and replacing these items along with integrating new shapes, colors, and materials for a completely transformed bathroom space.
The second way you can transform your bathroom space with a bit bigger budget is with a “Face Life”. This process is a bit more invasive and involves some subcontractors to help you with the bathroom update. Replacing cabinets, installing new counter-tops, upgrading sinks and faucets, installing glass shower doors, and re-glazing of outdated tubs are all ways to give your bathroom a face lift.
The third way to transform you bathroom space is with a complete “Bathroom Remmodel”. A bathroom remodel provides the most options of creating a new space and usually involves moving walls and plumbing locations. Custom walk in showers are common these days, and here at Inner View we specialize in them. Lighting and venting are also easy to upgrade and improve with a bathroom remodel. With a bathroom remodel, expect to pay more but receive a bigger return on your investment.
Whatever your budget maybe, there are ways to improve the look and feel of your most used space. Consulting with an interior designer before making improvements can provide clarity and creativity to your bathroom. Learning your personal preferences and styles before hand will aid you in the decision making process. We specialize in custom design plans for bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces, and we would love to hear about your project.
Here is the “After” image of the same forest green tub shown above. It received a re-glazing, new tile backsplash, and new faucets.
